Elopement

How it works

The First Step

Writing a ceremony according to the couple's preferences! We believe in creating unforgettable experiences for couples. To ensure everything is perfect, we will send you a questionnaire to fill out, helping us tailor the ceremony to your unique love story. After finalizing the details, a copy of the ceremony will be emailed to you for your review, ensuring everything is just as you envision.

The Next Step: The Big Day!

Our officiant will meet the couple at their chosen location (such as a serene beach, a picturesque park, or in your very own backyard) on their preferred date and time to perform the ceremony. Our ceremonies typically last 20-30 minutes, allowing you to exchange vows during the beautiful moments of a sunrise or sunset. Be sure to bring your valid marriage license application and your wedding rings.

The Final Step

After the ceremony is performed, our officiant will sign and file the marriage license application with the county where you received your license. This will be done on the same day of the ceremony or the next business day if the ceremony takes place after hours. Rest assured, your marriage license will be handled promptly and efficiently.

  • What are the top elopement spots in Sarasota?
For a beautiful elopement in Sarasota, consider Siesta Key Beach, Lido Key Beach, or Longboat Key Beach. If you prefer a park setting, Phillippi Estate Park, Bay Preserve at Osprey, Bayfront Park, Bird Key Park, The Bay Park, Lukewood Park, and Eloise Werlin Park are great options. Unique spots like the Unconditional Surrender Statue, Saint Armand's Circle, and Dolphin Fountain also make for memorable ceremonies!
  • Which resorts are the most recommended for our stay?
For your wedding, the most popular accommodations in town are Lido Beach Resort, The Resort at Longboat Key Club, and The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota.
  • Can we file our marriage license ourselves after the ceremony?
Yes! You do have the option to file your signed marriage license application yourself after the ceremony. You can do this by mail or in person at the clerk's office where you obtained your license. If you file in person, you'll usually get your official marriage license immediately. If you mail it, expect to receive it within two to three weeks.
  • How do we get a marriage license in Florida?
To get married in Florida, you will need an unexpired marriage license application from any Florida county clerk's office. This is the document your officiant will sign after they perform your wedding ceremony. Both applicants must apply in person with ID, birth date, and Social Security numbers (you will not have to bring your actual ss cards). If previously married, you will just need to provide the date your previous marriage was dissolved, no proof is required. The fee is $86, and no appointment is needed. Florida residents have a (consecutive) three-day waiting period unless they complete a premarital course and can show proof. The license is valid for 60 days. Out-of-state residents can get married without a waiting period but must visit the clerk's office in person before their wedding day to get the marriage license application. Alternatively, you can contact the county to have the application mailed to you, which you can then get notarized in your home state but please remember to bring it with you! For more details, current fees & requirements, and to start the marriage license application process, please visit Sarasota County's website: https://www.sarasotaclerk.com/about-us/marriage-services.
  • What is a commitment ceremony and how is it different from a wedding?
A commitment ceremony allows two people to publicly declare their love and dedication without legal obligations. Unlike a legal marriage, it doesn't require a marriage license, so the couple's marital status remains unchanged. This option is great for those who want to avoid legal complexities or simply prefer a private bond. Commitment ceremonies offer flexibility and can be personalized fully, often including vows, rings, and celebrations with loved ones. A Christian commitment ceremony is similar but includes a declaration in the presence of God, family, and friends. The key difference is that it's not legally binding.
  • How long does it take to receive our official marriage certificate after the wedding?
After the ceremony is performed and if we handle the filing for you, our officiant will sign and file your marriage license with the county on the same day (or the next business day for after-hours ceremonies). The county will then process and mail your official marriage certificate (the one with the gold seal) to you within two to three weeks.
  • Do you only officiate small weddings?
While larger weddings are wonderful, we specialize in simple beach elopements and intimate ceremonies, embracing the unique beauty and personal connection that small weddings offer. These ceremonies typically include the couple and a few of their closest friends and family. We're also available to perform intimate weddings at popular private venues like Michael's on East, Marie Selby Gardens, Mote Marine, Sarasota Opera House, The Ringling Museum/ The Ca' d'Zan/ Historic Asolo Theater (HAT) at The Ringling, Sarasota Garden Club and district, The Van Wezel and district; as well as private boats, golf courses, resorts and ranches.
  • What is the cost for a Vow Renewal or Commitment Ceremony?
Vow renewals and commitment ceremonies are beautiful moments! Since these ceremonies are typically simpler and are not legally binding, we are happy to offer the officiating of these for $200.
  • Do you offer your officiating services outside of Sarasota?
Currently, we primarily officiate weddings and perform ceremonies within Sarasota.
  • What alternative arrangements do you suggest in case of inclement weather?
When we plan your perfect day, we will be thrilled to brainstorm alternative arrangements with you!
  • Does the officiant step out of the way for the big kiss at the end?
Yes! Our officiant steps out of the way for the big kiss so the couple can have a private moment and so the photographer can get a perfect shot of "the kiss".
  • Can you recommend photographers, hair/makeup artists, musicians, or wedding event décor vendors?
Yes! Since we specialize in a la carte wedding officiant services, we are delighted to recommend other vendors for your elopement or intimate wedding. Just let us know what you need, and we'll send over a list of our recommendations.
  • Is a permit required for our wedding ceremony?
Regarding Public Beaches and Parks Only: Why a permit is usually required: Public Safety and Environmental Protection: Permits help local authorities manage beach usage, ensure public safety, and protect the natural environment. Regulations on Setup: Even a small elopement often involves a photographer with equipment, and some beaches regulate any kind of "setup" (like an arch, chairs, or even just professional photography equipment) that might impact public access or use of the beach. Commercial Activity: A professional photographer and officiant could be considered commercial activity on public property, which often requires a permit. Specific to Sarasota County (which includes Siesta Key and Lido Key): Siesta Key and Lido Key: These popular beaches in Sarasota County definitely require permits for weddings. The fees vary ($195-$250 for Lido Key Beach and $400-$475 for a wedding at Siesta Key Beach). Even without an arch or chairs: Even if you don't set up an arch or chairs, a permit might still be required if you have professional vendors (like a photographer) or if the ceremony is considered an "event" on the beach. However, no permit is required for your simple elopement or vow renewal ceremony, but a permit is required to set up a wedding arch, chairs & aisle decor. It's best to confirm directly with Sarasota County Parks and Recreation. Sarasota County Parks and Recreation: This is the authority to contact for permits (including public beach and public park ceremonies) in Sarasota County. Their number is: 941-861-7275 or 941-861-9930. You can often obtain permits over the phone with a credit card. General Florida Beach Wedding Permit Information: Vary by County/City: The rules are determined by the specific county or city where the beach is located, it's not a "blanket state law". Attendance Thresholds: Many places have a threshold (e.g., over 25 people) where a permit becomes explicitly required, but even below that, if you have any "set up" or commercial vendors, a permit is often necessary. No Blocking Public Access: Regardless of a permit, you generally cannot block off any public areas of the beach. Check with the Specific Beach: Always, always, always contact the local county or city parks and recreation department for the specific beach you plan to use. They will have the most accurate and up-to-date information on permit requirements, fees, and any restrictions (like amplified sound or specific decorations).
  • Do you have any restaurant recommendations for post-celebration dining?
Whether you are looking for a sophisticated soirée or a lively party, the Sarasota area offers fantastic options to celebrate your "I do's". For a sophisticated and elegant celebration, consider the Chart House on Longboat Key. Its beautiful waterfront setting provides a memorable backdrop. Marina Jack in Sarasota is another popular choice, offering stunning bay views and a refined atmosphere. St. Armand's Circle also offers an exquisite and upscale experience with its unique shops and dining. If you are a fun and free-spirited couple seeking a vibrant atmosphere, Downtown Sarasota is an excellent choice for celebrating with friends and family. You will find a variety of restaurants, bars, and entertainment options. For a truly fun-loving, beachy vibe, Siesta Key Village is the perfect spot to continue the festivities, with its casual eateries, live music, and proximity to the famous Siesta Key Beach.
  • Is there a travel fee?
Since we primarily serve the Sarasota area, we don't charge a travel fee for local weddings. Travel fees are included in the cost. If your special day is elsewhere, we're happy to discuss any travel fees that may apply.
  • Why does a wedding officiant cost so much?
Given that Florida, and Sarasota in particular, are popular wedding destinations, officiants in the state typically charge more than those in other states. The fees they charge cover more than just the ceremony itself. They factor in their experience, flexibility, expertise, and extensive preparation, which often includes a consultation, script writing, and filing the marriage license. The price of a wedding officiant is also determined by the size of the wedding and can include additional services, such as premarital counseling. Their fees also account for other expenses like insurance and travel time, in addition to the time spent on the actual event. The cost also includes the added value of a legally binding service.

Sarasota Elopements LLC is a professional wedding officiant service, licensed and insured in the State of Florida.
